DESCRIPTION

This course focuses on the acquisition of basic knowledge and analytical understanding of religion in general and of six transnational and transcultural religions (so-called 'world religions') in particular: Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism. The course offers basic access and in-depth insight into these religions and worldviews. Functioning as the introductory backbone course of religious literacy for several bachelor and minor programs in Religious Studies, it will go beyond a superficial overview.

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) awards credits based on the ECTS system. Contact hours listed under a course description may vary due to the combination of lecture-based and independent work required for each course therefore, CEA's recommended credits are based on the ECTS credits assigned by VU Amsterdam. 1 ECTS equals 28 contact hours assigned by VU Amsterdam.
