DESCRIPTION

This module is an introduction to Buddhism as religion, philosophy soteriology, psychyology and social-historical movement. In the module, the origins, nature and spread of Buddhism will be covered. Topics that will be discussed include: the life of the Buddha, Buddhist sutras, early Buddhism and theravada, great vehicle mahayana),diamond vehicle (vajrayana), new vehicle (Navayana), the moral path of Buddhism, interpretations of the Buddha, devotional Buddhism (Pure Land), the perfection of wisdom, the bodhisattva path and compassion, and vipassana and zazen meditation.
