The course studies the concept of democracy and the practice of democracy in our contemporary societies and the challenges that democratization faces today. The course studies the concept and the practice of democracy in our contemporary societies and the challenges that democratization faces today. The course deals with the theoretical foundations of democracy and studies types of democracy. It also looks at the historical evolution of democratic ideas and their application, analyzing different waves of democratization. Moreover, the course considers processes of democratization today and the conditions that favor or impede the spread of democracy.
