DESCRIPTION
This subject aims to analyse international business issues from the perspective of the manager in charge of the firm's international strategy. In doing so, the strategic management conceptual framework is used. Additionally, the peculiarities of international business in various fields, such as family firms, hospitality companies and emerging markets are explained.
Within this framework, the course is divided into two parts. The first one (comprising topics 1-4) deals with the strategic management process for firm?s internationalization. Thus, the main ideas to consider when making decisions on internationalization are presented following the steps of this process: strategic analysis (country-, industry-, and firm-specific factors), strategy formulation (entry and competitive strategies), and strategy implementation (human resources, organizational structure, and strategic control).
The second part of the course (involving topics 5 and 6) deals with international management in specific contexts. More precisely, topic 5 focuses on SMEs, family businesses, firms from Alicante province, and hotel chains. Finally, topic 6 analyses the strategies and key success factors in emerging markets, with a special emphasis on China and India.
Regarding the academic structure of the Degree in Business Administration and Management, the subject International Corporate Strategy and Management is included in two specialization routes of the 4th year: Strategic Management and International Business. Moreover, this subject carries out an in-depth study of some concepts belonging to Strategic Business Management I and II (subjects of the 3rd year), applying them to an international context.
Course will consist of 60hrs of in class work and 90 hrs of independent work outside the classroom.
