DESCRIPTION

Advanced Physical Chemistry is a subject of the core module of the undergraduate degree in Chemistry that is taught in the fifth semester of the third year. Students of this subject are intended to be trained in various aspects of Physical Chemistry not covered in other subjects in the area. The subject is divided into three main blocks. The first block focuses on the Kinetic Theory of Gases and Transport Phenomena. The second one is focused on Surface Phenomena and the electrified interface. Finally, the third block deals with solutions of Macromolecules and Colloidal Dispersions to finally deal with Statistical Mechanics. This last topic has a clear relationship with subjects studied in previous semesters. Indeed, knowledge on other subjects such as Quantum Chemistry and Spectroscopy (26024) and Chemical Thermodynamics (26022) is necessary for the understanding of Statistical Thermodynamics. On the other hand, the contents of this subject are important for the development of Chemical Kinetics, which will be studied in the sixth semester of the degree.

Course will consist of 60hrs of in class work and 90 hrs of independent work outside the classroom.
