The course is designed to introduce students to some of the main themes and developments of Western Civilization from its rise in the Near East through the Early Medieval Period. Ths social, intellectual, artistic and literary trends will be examined with particular attention to the contributions of Egypt, Greece and Rome as well as a comparative study of the origins and development of Judaism, early Christianity and Islam.
