DESCRIPTION
The objectives of this course are designed to supply the basics in Costa Rican cultural history and its links with different processes such as nation building and politics during the first century after its independence from the Spanish empire. Furthermore, it will allow the student to learn about the contextual framework needed for a better understanding of the social representations and ideologies in Costa Rican art history. Therefore, this course is designed to understand art as a social and political practice and as part of a web of symbolical and cultural phenomena.
