DESCRIPTION

This module examines how crime, criminal behaviour, policing, and the criminal justice system are represented in TV drama, film, and news media. It explores the cultural and political significance of media and crime, and media constructions of deviance. Students develop the academic practice of textual analysis, exploring how academic media theories and methods relate to a range of written and visual texts. The module will introduce forms of analysis developed from various theoretical traditions, such as semiotics, structuralism and feminism.
