DESCRIPTION

This unit provides an introduction to UK planning combining a historical approach with a critical consideration of the key attributes of the planning system as it emerged and developed after the Town and Country Planning Act 1947. Alongside this engagement with the development of the statutory planning system is an introductory examination of the changing planning principles and theories which have informed the development of the planning system and planning practice. This Unit?s principal aim is to provide an introduction to UK planning (with an emphasis on England) combining a historical approach with a critical consideration of the key attributes of the planning system as it emerged and developed after the Town and Country Planning Act 1947. A second major aim is to equip students with an appreciation of the planning principles and theories which have informed the development of the system and planning practice.
