DESCRIPTION
This module will introduce students to the changes and continuities occurring within Britain and its relationship with Empire during the years 1750-1900. The course will focus on the emergence of Britain as the first industrial nation and explore the key impacts of industrialisation on the economy, politics, society and everyday life. Other areas of study include the emergence of working class protest and the labour movement, the extension of democratic rights, the Irish Famine, the experiences of immigrants to the UK, the nascent women?s movement and Britain?s relationship with America, India and Africa.
