DESCRIPTION

This course is an exploration of literature by writers who have either left their country of origin by choice (expatriates), by necessity (exiles), or who were born displaced from their homelands. After a literary (Alastair Reid) and theoretical (Edward Said & Julia Kristeva) study of this topic, we will proceed to an exploration of the works of a variety of writers, examining how the cultural and linguistic displacement of these writers affected their works in regard to form, theme & style.
