DESCRIPTION

The aim of this course is to provide students with the information needed to use photography as a creative medium. Coursework will provide a platform for students to explore how to apply their creative potential to different photographic themes. Particular emphasis will be placed on hands-on photography and discussing the results in class. The use of post-production software programs will be introduced and utilized for image correction and adjustment. In addition to practical application, students will be introduced to a variety of contemporary visual artists through videos, gallery visits and discussions. Upon completion of the course, students will have an improved understanding of creative photography in different fields like street photography, abstract photography, portraits and others, laying the foundation for further exploration of the creative process. The course will focus on the more creative rather than the technical aspects of digital photography. Also be covered will be composition and various creative exercises to develop creative seeing. A key component of the course is the ongoing work on the assignments for everyone and also on each student´s chosen project and theme. The final portion of the course will include preparing images for the end of course exhibition and a photography book. Additionally, depending on the quality of the photographs, some or all students may be able to exhibit their work at the Goethe-Institut in Frankfurt where the lecturer is curating photography exhibitions.
