DESCRIPTION
This module provides an analysis of the economic relationships between countries, covering both trade and monetary issues. The aims of this module are to examine real world economic concepts and issues, showing students why they matter through basic cause and effect analysis. It is also aimed at enabling students to develop a clear understanding of macroeconomic issues at national and international level and how they impact on business and how business decisions are derived from the macroeconomic issues.
The first half of the course deals with international trade theory and policy. Students will explore important topics such as why countries trade with each other and the effect of international trade on welfare and income distribution. Students will also analyze the role of firm heterogeneity in international trade and the links between globalization and inequality.
The second half of the course considers macroeconomics and offers a basic understanding of fundamental (macro)economic theories. Moreover, this part will primarily focus on understanding, measuring, and analyzing macroeconomic activity and the role of fiscal and monetary policy in the economy.
