English Lexicology

This module has been designed in order to familiarize students with an area which we consider basic for the study of any language, including the English language: Lexicology. First, an introduction to Lexicology and to its central notions will be offered, and also to its limits and relationships with other shared-interest disciplines, such as Lexicography. More specifically, we shall study the main mechanisms involved in word formation in English, together with the relationships existing between words, both native and borrowed from other languages.

Course will consist of 60hrs of in class work and 90 hrs of independent work outside the classroom.
