Theory of Literature is a literary scientific and philological discipline whose object of study are general problems affecting literature, text and literary phenomena. In this context, ?Theory of Literature I? subject offers the student the basic concepts and fundamental problems of Science of Literature (History of Literature, Theory of Literature and Literary Criticism, and Comparative Literature). The subject also offers knowledge on their relations with extraphilological disciplines connected to it; literary theoretical and literary critical concepts belonging to classical and traditional Poetics and Rhetoric, given that they are historical background of the discipline; and finally literary theoretical and literary critical concepts of modern aesthetic and poetic thought. Theory of Literature I subject constitutes therefore one of the basic pillars of the Degree, since it develops both a historical and an abstract, general and theoretical perspective on literary manifestations.
