DESCRIPTION

The Inorganic Chemistry subject is the first one on Inorganic Chemistry in the Chemistry degree, and its main objective is to establish the foundations of this knowledge area. For this reason, the study of descriptive Inorganic Chemistry is addressed, that is, the study of chemical elements and their compounds. The contents have been stablished, considering that the student, in the second semester of the first year, has already learned the subject Chemistry II, in which the following issues are presented: the atomic structure, justifying the electronic configurations, description of the Periodic Table and the periodic properties, and the explanation of the different types of bonds (covalent, metallic, ionic and coordination) and intermolecular forces. It also includes general topics on reactivity of inorganic compounds (acid-base and oxidation-reduction reactions) and organic compounds. Thus, the systematic study of the elements and their main compounds is developed based on this important background, trying to relaate atomic properties and bonding with the physical and chemical properties of elements and compounds.

Course will consist of 60hrs of in class work and 90 hrs of independent work outside the classroom.
