DESCRIPTION

Chronologically, Chemical Thermodynamics is the first subject in the area of Physical Chemistry. It is taught during the third semester of the Chemistry degree. The aim is to study the macroscopic properties of a chemical system, especially those related to the energy of the system and its equilibrium. The main objective is to provide criteria to predicting the spontaneity of chemical processes, and the applications of these criteria to some of the most important chemical processes. To be able to follow the subject, the concepts introduced during the first year in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are required. Likewise, the concepts studied in this subject will be applied in the rest of the subjects of the Physical Chemistry area, especially those of the third year. They will be also applied in any area of Chemistry where reactivity is analyzed.

Course will consist of 60hrs of in class work and 90 hrs of independent work outside the classroom.
