DESCRIPTION

Singular Building Systems aims to approach the student to the daily work of any bureau of architects; for this reason, the course orbits around a Project that the student will have to face, solve and define as if it were a real case, emphasizing materiality, and defining all necessary details so that the project can be built.

The course follows the self-described "I + CT method"; We think that Architecture is both Idea and Construction, "Art and Technique" as Gropius defended in the Bauhaus, or "Built Idea" in the words of Campo Baeza. We understand Construction as an indissoluble part of the process of architectural creation, and so we intend to use singular constructive systems and materiality as starting premises to generate project ideas and new compositional formalizations.

We also rescued and reinterpreted concepts of Metabolist Movement and the Archigram Group that are closely related to the main goal of the course (unique systems): use of light prefabrication technologies, composition based on modular frames, construction with three-dimensional cells, use of aggregate systems as a way of generate architectural forms, etc

Course will consist of 60hrs of in class work and 90 hrs of independent work outside the classroom.
