The course will begin with a brief background on China's regional and global history prior to the 18th, then move on to a more detailed discussion of the "Great Divergence", China's clashes with European powers in the 18th-19th c., the global networks behind reform and revolution, China's integration in the state socialist Second World, and its return as global power in the 21st c.
