DESCRIPTION
This course examines a range of legal topics, aiming to provide a bird-eye view of key issues affecting business in its day-to-day operations. The course focuses on commercial contracts and corporate law; other relevant areas include the law of sales, product liability, intellectual property, agency, insolvency, business torts and crimes, dispute resolution. The course provides a general overview of the legal environment to assist future business decision makers. General understanding of legal issues help to identify situations which do and which do not require the assistant of a professional lawyer. The topics have been selected and structured around basic questions related to legal systems: How is law created? How the legal systems operate? How do different governmental systems affect the business environment? What sources provide for legal obligations? How are binding contracts made? Which issues should I consider when engaging into contracts? In addition to attending lectures and joining the discussions, students will engage in case studies and simulations, individually or in team with other students. The course has a direct approach and aims to ?open the student?s eyes? to the complexity of the legal environment. Upon successful completion of the course, they will gain confidence related to legal rules and also their critical thinking skills will significantly expand. Students will gain insight into legal terminology, become able to identify legal risks in business processes, interact better with legal advisors. Legal environment of business is designed to provide students with a comprehensive introduction to business and company law.
