The 21st century is often referred to as the Asian century - the century in which the most populous continent in the world seizes its potential and rises economically and politically. Asia also offers a unique comparison on the development of powers in democratic and
authoritarian settings. Are democratic countries such as India more peaceful? Are they economically more efficient? Do authoritarian countries such as China stand a better chance at curbing the massive emissions associated with developing economies? For how long can China sustain skirmishes and conflicts with virtually all its neighbours? And will Southeast Asia with its powerful geographical position at the hub of global trade routes become the place for the next proxy conflicts between China and the US?
