DESCRIPTION
This course aims to provide students with deeper insights into the topic of global migration and displacement and the modern Middle East. It begins by approaching the framework of migration studies from an interdisciplinary perspective and exposes students to major historiographical trends and developments. The course then proceeds to survey the history of the Middle East through the lens of inbound and outbound migration from a thematic perspective, problematizing questions of culture, identity, foreignness, belonging, and home. The course closes by deliberating on contemporary trends in migration, including their impact at the local level, in Europe and in Prague.
