DESCRIPTION

This course takes an important look at French literature beginning with the classical period. Novels by La Sage, Marivaux, Prevost and Laclos are studied along with the theatrical works of Marivaux and Voltaire. Diderot and Rousseau are also given particular attention. The course concludes with a focused look at the roles of naturalism and pre-Romanticism in French literature.
