DESCRIPTION
This module develops the students' understanding of essential scientific principles for the study of engineering to degree level. It is designed to be accessible to students with a wide range of prior science specialisation. The module comprises two blocks of study. These introduce the principles of measurement systems and units, thermal physics, mechanical and electrical principles.
The students will be broken down into 2 lecture streams. There will also be 6 tutorial streams. The module will be taught through a combination of lectures (2 hours/week) and problem-setting tutorials (2 hours/week). The course material will be supplemented by additional reading and practice problems posted on Moodle and links to useful internet sources. Applications across the various engineering disciplines will be introduced in lectures and developed via problem-solving tutorial exercises.
