DESCRIPTION
To enable students to think critically about the role of language in society and be able to comment in an informed manner on approaches to this subject. To introduce students to aspects of sociolinguistics, particularly the themes of language, identity and multilingualism, minority languages and the case of Irish, power and language in World English(es),communication and interculturalism including non-verbal communication,and language variation and Irish English. To introduce students to the history of languages and questions of language dominance.
