DESCRIPTION

This module introduces students to main themes in political, social and cultural history of the interwar period in Europe: impact and lasting legacy of the First World War, social and political changes of the 1920s and 1930s, crisis of democracy and the impact of the Great Depression, reasons for and experiences of the Second World War. The module pays equal attention to the histories of Western, Central and Eastern Europe and aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of European history of the period. The module consists of two lectures per week. At least a third of the lectures will include seminar-style work, when students will be asked to work in groups.
