DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this module is to allow students to investigate the particular cultural forms which national consciousness and identity take in different national contexts, and to understand the pressures exerted on national identities by contemporary forces of globalization. Students who have spent a year abroad will be able to situate their empirical knowledge of countries and cultures in a theoretical framework. Students are expected to attend lectures, pursue independent reading, and make comparisons between different national situations.
