This module focuses on creative learning through art in early childhood. The students will engage with literature relating to the artistic and creative development of the child from infancy to six years of age. The principles of early learning and development and the adult’s role in supporting children’s early learning and development underpin this module. Links between art and play will be investigated. A range of art activities in different media will be designed to reflect the four themes of the Aistear curriculum: Well-being, Identity and Belonging, Communicating and Exploring and Thinking. The art elements: space, colour, line, texture, pattern and form will be explored in a playful way through art-making and appreciating. Key concepts relating to creativity, playfulness, experimentation, problem-solving and multi-modal self-expression will be emphasized.
