DESCRIPTION

This elective is all about ancient and medieval theories of truth and the ontological and epistemological presuppositions underlying them. We will discuss questions regarding the relation between metaphysical truth and propositional truth, the nature of falsity, different views on the (im)possibility of cognising truth, and the role of truth in living the good life. We will start in classical Athens and end in the fourteenth century. This class relates directly to past and future research of several members of the department.
