DESCRIPTION

In this course we will focus on three aspects: theories of migration, geography and history of migration, and migration and integration policies. We will describe main migration processes since late 18th century up until today with emphasis on postwar period. In terms of geography, our course will aim at world macro regions (Africa, Middle East, South-Eastern Asia etc.). Particular attention will be paid to Northern America and Europe, including its East Central part. The course will present some specific cases such as Jewish and Roma migrations too. Presentation of migration and integration policies will be focused on Europe (EU) and the USA. Special attention will be devoted to the latest 'refugee crisis'. Theoretical part will deal with concepts explaining migration as well as some related issues. Among the most topical today are transnationalism, identity, gender, and development. We will apply approaches from both political science and sociology.
