The chosen human development policy areas have global relevance, but policy interventions vary in different economic and political-ideological contexts, and they imply different institutional logics (state vs. market, or mixed interventions) and attitudes towards social problems and their solutions. The case studies discussed in the course reflect the recent empirical research findings in different social policy areas in different international contexts. The course has the ambition to encourage students to participate in discussions concerning rival social policy interventions actively.
