DESCRIPTION

The first part of the course provides the historical societal and political foundations of the post-communist transformation and serves as an anchor to understand political behaviour and policy reform paths discussed in the subsequent classes. In the second half of the semester, students will learn about how distinctive political and societal features of specific Central and Eastern European countries have been shaping public policy reform trajectories in various policy areas (migration policy, family policy, education policy, labour market policy, pension policy, health and care policies). Throughout the course, a variety of cases from countries of the Central and Eastern European region will be discussed and different types of ideological approaches will be addressed.
