This course is designed to provide students with a clear idea of the tangible and intangible dimensions that conforms our cultural heritage as representations of identity. Students will understand the value that each society gives to its own culture; learn the importance of heritage for tourism demand; and acquire the abilities needed to transform these resources into distinctive cultural products. This course also provides the general principles of preservation and use of such resources in society, as well as the exhibition and interpretation for its consumption.
Cultural heritage attractions such as archeological and historical sites, cultural landscapes museums, festivals, religious pilgrimages, gastronomy, as well as community life and traditions, play a crucial role in the global tourism industry. Therefore, understanding the principles that link culture with tourism will be critical in the Tourism BA curriculum. This module puts cultural heritage in relation with disciplines such as planning, community development or marketing, helping students to better understand the dynamics that govern the tourism industry.
Course will consist of 60hrs of in class work and 90 hrs of independent work outside the classroom.
