DESCRIPTION

This course will introduce students to the history of the Near and Middle East through its emphasis on the relationship between the 'Islamic world' and 'the West,' the evolution of their intellectual exchanges and perceptions of one another, and how historical encounters have shaped their respective and common histories. The temporal scope of this course is from the emergence of Islam through the contemporary era.
