Prerequisites: General knowledge of the history of ancient philosophy (Presocratic philosophy, Plato, Aristotle and Neoplatonism in particular) is an advantage for those who are about to read this important text. Those who have not attended the course on the history of Ancient Philosophy and/or are not familiar with its topics are invited to acquaint themselves with some key texts in texts ancient philosophy (in particular as regards Plato and Aristotle), in addition to the primary and secondary literature for this course.
DESCRIPTION
This course will be on an Aristotelian text. Aristotle is a one of the most influential philosophers in the history of philosophy, and this course invites students to familiarize themselves with the key topics in one of his seminal texts as welll as to analyse and to engage critically with its arguments. Active participation by the students is required.
Students who complete the course will acquire not only knowledge of the key philosophical themes discussed in Aristotle?s text, but also a general understanding of the main conceptual issues related to the text.
