WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE CLASS WHILE ABROAD, AND WHY?
My "Exploring the Global City: Barcelona" class was my favorite because it allowed us to explore our city and its different neighborhoods. We spent time conducting field studies and reporting on the different aspects of Barcelona from a sociological perspective - from gentrification & tourism to museums & industry changes. Now, I examine cities across the world with the same critical lens. And the class pointed out places of "Oh, I want to come back and explore this neighborhood more! or "That coffee shop looks super cool - I'll have to try."
WHAT'S ONE STORY OR IMPORTANT ASPECT YOU ALWAYS TELL PEOPLE ABOUT YOUR TIME ABROAD?
One piece of advice I received early on was 'yes, it's important to build a routine for yourself abroad, but it's equally important to build spontaneity into your days so they never become monotonous.' For me, that meant finding new coffee shops every day to visit - and that also meant just walking around the city between classes to explore new streets and new areas of town. This is advice I recommend to anyone - even after you return from abroad!
