WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE CLASS WHILE ABROAD, AND WHY?
My favorite class was called Locating Social Inequality because the professor had such a vivacious personality, which added so much to the course experience by making the experience more engaging and material more interesting and interactive. Additionally, there were a lot of important parallels that I ascertained from this class relative to my pre-medical studies given that studying the social determinants of health in a given a suburb (and how they compare to adjacent yet juxtaposed in life circumstances) suburbs enables one to better serve their patient population as a future physician.
HOW DID YOU ENGAGE WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WHILE ABROAD?
My friends and I explored some iconic cultural landmarks like the Sydney Opera House as well as learned about the colonial and Indigenous history of Sydney through class field trips and program events like the Aboriginal Bush Tucker tour. Sydney also has a vibrant nightlife scene, which we were fortunate enough to be able to check out through finding different bar and club venues by word of mouth or on social media through content creators. Living in the midst of Haymarket, a bustling district near the city center, also enabled us to interact with locals frequently on walks to the grocery store in addition to exploring different parts of the nearby area.
