WHAT'S ONE STORY OR IMPORTANT ASPECT YOU ALWAYS TELL PEOPLE ABOUT YOUR TIME ABROAD?
I always emphasize how different each person's experience was. In my friend group of about 5 people, we all had different histories with French and different reasons for studying abroad. It was super important to me, and not easy at first, to remember my own goals and make sure I was meeting my own needs. Personally, I needed a pretty even split of alone time and time with friends, while other people wanted to spend all their time with other people. Also, I was super focused on my French improving and my academics, so I definitely spent more time studying and less time traveling out of the country than other people did. It's really easy to get swayed by what other people are doing, but it's also so important to stick to your own goals and values.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE CLASS WHILE ABROAD, AND WHY?
My favorite class was my Art History class. Approaching Art History in France, I sort of expected to learn about the same painters that everyone already knows about, but my professor made the effort to pick lesser-known artists. We also delved in to photography and street art, which is huge in France. It was incredibly interesting and fulfilling to not only learn about French art in a deeper way, but also to learn how to describe and critique art in another language.
