Making Study Abroad Memories Through Culinary Experiences in Seville, Spain
Restaurants are places full of experiences, reflections, memories, and most importantly, food. Going to a restaurant is the first thing that I do when I arrive in a new place.
I visited my friend Paula in Valencia, and we had the best conversations at restaurants! We loved sharing things so we could try a little bit of everything! Here is a coffee shop, Cafe Santa Gloria.
All across the globe, restaurants and cafes demonstrate culture by serving and advertising local food and traditions. In addition, restaurants can demonstrate worldly culture, including the countries that are nearby.
Me (right) and Libby in Rome. My friends and I had the most amazing pasta, here is us at dinner
Me and my three friends enjoyed going out to dinner and trying new sharing plates. Here was one with tater tots, chorizo, and spicy mayo.
One of my favorite parts of studying abroad in Spain was not only how wonderful the Spanish food was, but getting to experience the other cultures' food. For instance, I tried many Middle Eastern foods, such as pastries and kebab, that I now love.
In Lisbon, I was able to see so many different cultures and foods! Here is a fusion restaurant: Peruvian and Asian!
Brazil: At the Prado san Sebastian park in Seville, they had a world culture fair for the month, and I got to practice my Portuguese and try Brazilian food.
Aside from that, some of my most favorite memories which I think will be sitting down for a long dinner with my friends and family. My parents visited me in Seville and it was a life-changing experience, as they have never been to Europe. The restaurants had such a special ambience too in Spain (Photo 5), as the weather was so nice we always sat outside.
One of the first meals I had with a big group, meeting some new people. We were in Cadiz on the CEA CAPA excursion!
The restaurant at my parents’ hotel in Seville had the most beautiful environment and was one of my favorite memories.
In addition, I was in a wine class and became interested in pairing wine with food. Because of this I became interested in teaching my friends about what wines went with what food and how important it was to always get what is in season and local.
While at the restaurant, I often suggested we play a game. Me and my family’s personal favorite was the movie game, where we would try to guess the movie someone was talking about and they had to describe it in three words.
My parents and I ate breakfast in Seville with the world’s freshest orange juice with orange trees growing all around! The restaurant called Cappuccino has the best breakfast.
I felt like choosing something to do with restaurants for the theme for the photoset was the only option, because of how important my experiences in them were. In addition, I feel as if in Spain and its surrounding countries there is a special culture surrounding restaurants.
Pastries: Casa Robles had the best pastries I’ve ever had in my life, the strawberry and meringue one on the top was my favorite. The king and queen of Spain also are frequent visitors there.
Another gorgeous shot of Casa Robles, they showcase hanging cured meats which are very traditional in Spain.
