Make A Positive Impact: French Riviera Beach Cleaning

How are CEA students making a positive impact while abroad? Well, in September, French Riviera CEA students joined forces with locals from the pretty beach town of Theoule sur Mer and the Association Méditerranée 2000 to volunteer at the Nettoyons la Nature - Let’s Clean Up Nature Day. They cleaned the stunningly beautiful but difficult-to-access beaches and coves of one of our most picturesque local national parks from all sorts of trash -- the worst culprits being cigarette butts.

The volunteers picked up more than 300 cigarette butts just on the small parking lot before even starting to clean the beaches. Did you know that one cigarette butt pollutes 500 liters of water and that it takes up to 10 years to decompose?

Sienna Miller from University of Arizona said, “It was fun to clean the environment and at the same time get great views from the cliffs and beaches.”
