The ability to travel is an incredible privilege that has the power to forever change an individual from the inside out. Something that those of us lucky enough to study abroad eventually realize is that we begin to see the world through an entirely new set of eyes. From a sight as simple as a field of grass to a structure as complex as the Alhambra, we begin to acknowledge the beauty in everything around us more than ever before.
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to leave my beautiful home in Granada and explore Sevilla and Ronda. Sevilla was awe-inspiring, from the sprawling Plaza de España to the shockingly detailed Alcazar -- they have it all. I remember weaving through the crowds of tourists and locals, all trying to decide on a place to have a bite and escape the rain, a very simple yet wonderfully charming sight.
Ronda was equally breathtaking, but in an entirely different way; its fantastic views of wide open fields and El Tajo, the unforgettable gorge, left me speechless. As we sat to enjoy lunch, I was overwhelmed by the beauty and calm that was Ronda and have carried that feeling of bliss with me since. It was as I stood observing these new and exciting places that I realized beauty comes in a myriad of shapes and sizes and is constantly around us. This realization allowed me to look with a new set of eyes on my home in Granada and will undoubtedly have the same effect on me when I return to the United States.
