For me, one of the most attractive qualities of the CEA study abroad program in Seville was the excursions offered. In the past, students have been taken on visits to surrounding cities, like Granada and Cordoba, and other countries, like Morocco and Portugal. I already knew I would want to visit these places; knowing that the trips would be included, convenient, and an opportunity to bond with my fellow peers only further cemented my interest in the program.
Recently, our program went on an overnight excursion to Granada. Only about an hour and a half away by bus, the historic city made for an incredible visit. All of my expectations for what the trip would be like were surpassed.

Early in the morning, we met to hop on the buses. We drove through rolling hillsides, farms, and green mountains. Regardless of where you go in Spain, you will see beautiful views and historic buildings - it never ceases to amaze me.
Our first stop was one of the most fascinating places in Granada, the Alhambra. Upon hopping off the bus, we were given tickets and ear pieces for our tour. I was immediately taken by the beauty of it all - there were incredible gardens, intricate architectural designs, and the sun was shining down on us. The Alhambra boasted old Moorish palaces, with indoor fountains and beautiful courtyards. I tried my best to soak all of it in. We were there for about an hour and a half and every moment was wonderful.
After our tour ended, we settled into our very nice hotel and then went out to explore the city. From the white buildings to the steep cobblestone pathways, we were in love. We wandered up towards the oldest part of the city in search of a great place to view the sunset. To say the least, we were not disappointed. In the distance were great blue mountains and the sky was all sorts of pastel colors. Locals gathered in patios off of the main sidewalks, playing the guitar, singing, and drinking wine. With the background of Spanish music, the moment was picture perfect. Afterwards, we headed out to indulge ourselves in the famous tapas of Granada, which are included along with the purchase of a beverage.

The next morning, we were treated to a wonderful buffet in the hotel before heading out for a guided tour of the city. We passed through streets filled with markets of Arabic-influenced crafts and teas. Strings of pink hearts were strewn between buildings in the street. People were out and about in the city enjoying the beautiful day.
I am so glad that I was able to experience Granada. I would highly recommend making a visit, regardless of where you are studying. The opportunity to appreciate the beautiful buildings, people, and culture of the city is one that I am so very thankful for.
