There's no doubt that internships and study abroad boost your résumé. You set yourself apart by having lived and studied in another country, you discover career paths when you take an internship. But these things don't have to be mutually exclusive: you can intern abroad. Take it from Jodie, a CEA London Alum from 2015, as she takes us around her favorite parts of
interning abroad in London.

Meet Jodie, our London alumnae & a PR specialist. |
As a Public Relations major studying abroad at the end of my Junior year, it was really important to me to get as much work experience I could, so I decided to take on an internship abroad! Through CEA, I landed a great position in healthcare PR and gained incredible insight that I wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. Plus being able to say I’ve worked in another country is a GREAT line to drop on my résumé and in interviews!

Big Ben and Parliament from Westminster Abbey. Wishing we were back there! |
Living and working in London is incredible. One of my favorite simple pleasures is fresh flowers, and sometimes it can be hard to make student accommodation feel homey! I loved visiting the Colombia Road Flower Market every couple of weeks to pick up a bouquet of fresh flowers. The market was pretty close to my flat in Shoreditch and always had a great selection!

London: love at first sight. |
Interning in London not only gave me the opportunity to start learning the skills I need as a PR professional, but I also was able to have the unique experience of learning to work with people internationally. Working abroad showed me how important it is to be open minded and adaptable in the workplace. I also discovered that the stereotype of Brits drinking a lot of English Breakfast Tea is 100% true!

There is a lush garden at the top of the Walkie Talkie building. Definitely worth the trip. |
One of my favorite memories from London was having High Tea at Kensington Palace. My friends and I got dressed up and took part in a traditional afternoon tea at Will and Kate’s residence one of our first days in London. We had so much fun having such a quintessentially British experience to kick off our time abroad!

Tea is definitely a way of life in London |
Not a day goes by that I don’t miss being in London and I love getting to share my experiences! During my time abroad, I gained incredible work experience, but I also gained so many life experiences that I will never forget. I got to see the world, I met some of my best friends and I learned so many things that aren’t found in a book. If you have the opportunity to intern abroad during your time in college, TAKE IT. The world awaits!
