Catching Flights on the Weekends while Studying Abroad in Rome

Catching Flights on the Weekends while Studying Abroad in Rome, Italy

I value traveling while I'm studying abroad in Europe, and my extended weekends off of school have helped make it feasible for me to do so. Even though I still have schoolwork, I prefer to spend my weekends traveling to different cities and studying there rather than spending all my time at home on the French Riviera. I want to visit a number of nearby locations throughout my stay.

My most recent travels have taken me to Italy. My roommates and I usually attempt to schedule outings for Fridays to Sundays because we don't have classes on Fridays, and we most recently have returned from a trip to the gorgeous city of Rome! Considering most flights in Europe are less expensive than if we were coming from the U.S., we managed to locate inexpensive plane tickets to Rome.

We grabbed a taxi to our hotel after arriving in the city, left our luggage there, and then headed to the Colosseum! We were allowed to explore the Colosseum after arriving there by purchasing a ticket; Rome has such stunning architecture. Afterward, we proceeded to a nearby restaurant where we had lunch, which was delicious and freshly made pizza!

Fresh gelato after touring in the Vatican was the perfect treat!

The next day, we headed to the Vatican Museum, where we were able to view stunning artwork and architecture from all throughout the world. We then ended the day with some gelato at the local restaurant across the street.

Homemade pasta to keep us warm during the rain.

On our final day, we started the day at the well-known Trevi Fountain, where we tossed our coins in and made a wish. From there, we went to the Spanish Steps and had some excellent handmade pasta inside away from the rain at That's Amore. Following our delicious lunch, we strolled through the city, stopping at adorable locally run businesses. We then took a cab to the airport in time for our flight home, where we were able to see an unforgettable sunset! All in all, it was a memorable getaway full of delicious homemade food and experiences from the weekend spent in Italy!
